Poultry Carcass Visual Inspection

🐔Case Study:

Implementation of AI-Based Image Inspection in Poultry Processing

Background: Challenges in Conventional Inspection Methods

In poultry processing lines, the final visual inspection of products (such as chicken carcasses and parts) has traditionally relied on human visual examination and tactile assessment.
Although this method has been practiced for decades, it presents several inherent challenges:

  1. Efficiency Constraints:
As line speeds increase, inspectors must make rapid decisions within extremely limited time intervals, resulting in a significant rise in cognitive and physical workload.

  2. Variability in Inspection Outcomes:
Inspection quality can vary depending on the inspector’s level of expertise, physical condition, fatigue, and environmental factors such as lighting, leading to inconsistencies in judgment.

To fundamentally transform this inspection process and achieve “faster and more accurate” evaluations, we introduced state-of-the-art AI-driven image inspection technology.

🌟 AI-Enabled Inspection:

Objective, Consistent, and High-Precision Quality Assessment

How Our AI Inspection System Works

Our AI system applies objective and highly consistent inspection criteria that surpass human visual capabilities.

1. Extensive Pre-Training

The AI model is pre-trained using hundreds of thousands to millions of poultry images,
including not only normal carcasses but also a comprehensive range of defects and abnormalities.
This enables the model to learn highly nuanced distinctions.

2. High-Precision Image Analysis

When a product passes under the camera on the processing line, the AI instantly captures the image and analyzes subtle variations in color, morphology, and texture—differences that are often imperceptible to the human eye.

3. Real-Time Classification and Decision-Making

Based on its analytical assessment, the AI performs real-time classification and determines whether a product is “acceptable” or “non-compliant/defective”.
Unlike human inspectors, the AI is unaffected by fatigue or concentration lapses, ensuring stable, repeatable decisions under all operating conditions.
